Should you decide to have a Twitter account, or if you all ready do...please take 3 minutes to at least provide enough information so that people can decide IF they want to follow you. Just because you are following someone, do not assume they will automatically follow you back... and really, who wants an automated anything? Don't we all want real people we are interested in and who may be interested in what we have to say (or tweet)?
I write this post after returning from a week long vacation and having about 120 new followers to sort through to decide if I'm going to follow them back. It's a nice position to be in...but I need some basic information to base my decision on.
Here are my personal "must haves" for Twitter (note: this may mean nothing at all to 90% or more of the folks out there on Twitter... this is only my opinion FWIW):
- Your real name somewhere on your profile
- Your URL... don't have a personal website? How about your Facebook page--that works fine too.
You don't have to have the most brilliant bio for me to follow you...heck, I know mine needs work... but I do need to know or find out a little about you before I click the "follow" button. If it's too much work for me, I don't have time to research who the Twit is and I'm all ready following over 1,000 people--I'm trying to keep my Twitter "steam" interesting--if it's full of chatter from people I don't know, do not relate with and/or who are just spamming their business...it's useless.
The great thing about Twitter (or one of them) is that we, the user, have the power to decide who we will follow and who we will block and what we will say (er...tweet)...it's a beautiful thing. But please, I beg of you, make it easy for people to find you and decide they want to follow you.
Stumble It!
