This could be the most intimidating post you'll ever write. And it's actually quite simple. You don't want your post (any post) to be too long. I personally think they are most effective when it's like reading an email from a friend...a post (the article you're "posting" on your blog) should be pretty similar.
A "Welcome to my blog" is a nice way to great your readers. You can talk about why you've decided to blog. Maybe you're wanting to share information about a neighborhood or shed light on real estate issues. Check out other real estate blogs to get an idea of how they wrote their first post. If they have an "archive" listed on their blog, you would go to the oldest month and scroll to the first post (typically, this would be the very last post on the oldest month on the site. Blogs usually are chronological with the newest post showing first--on top of your page, and older post under the most recent post. Eventually, the older post "fall off" the page and become "archived" by months and/or categories).
Here are a few of my first posts:
- Mortgage Porter: You've Got to Start Somewhere. I was riled about what was going on in the mortgage industry and the mis-information about Loan Originator Licensing.
- Beach Drive Blog: Welcome to Beach Drive Blog. I don't promote mortgage actively on this site and I really created it just to have a form of communication with the neighborhood and because I'll probably start a block watch. I feel like I'm the neighborhood reporter and other neighbors are welcome to contribute their own post as guest authors or they can email articles to me to post for them.
- R TEAM: Welcome to R TEAM. This first post states my goal for this blog...to help real estate agents start blogging and to share my experiences from the blogging world.
All three of "my first posts" are very different for each blog as each one of my blogs has a different purpose.
Here are a couple other "first posts" of fairly new local real estate blogs that are great examples for you:
- Deborah Burns of Seattle Urban Villages: The Seattle Real Estate Adventure Begins
- Greg and Brian Perry of Eastside Real Estate Working for You: Welcome!
- Rebecca Kuno of Red Brick Blog: Welcome to Red Brick Blog
While you're visiting these sites, you may also want to check out their "About Me" pages...which is just as important as your first post.
Give it a try!
