Miss West Seattle Hi-Yu White Rose Reception

Tonight past Miss Hi-Yu Royality welcomed the 2010 - 2011 Candidates for Miss West Seattle Hi-Yu at the Fauntleroy Church.  

The event was filled with grandmothers, moms, aunts, daughters and friends who proudly watched the White Rose Ceremony.

 

2010 Miss Hi-Yu Candidates:  Rosemary Unite, Victoria Ferrulli, Kelsey Porter, Melanie Frey and Kelsey Bills.

  
 
The 2010 Senior Court:  Princess Kelly Nealson, Queen Georgia Mitchell and Princess Veronica Pupava.

The Miss West Seattle Hi Yu Coronation will take place on July 26, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the West Seattle High School Theater Auditorium.

Looks like it's sticking around for a while...summer?

West Seattle Tweet-up at Salty's on Alki this Thursday

Don't worry--you don't have to be on Twitter or have to know what a Tweet-up is to join in this Thursday... it's really just a chance for local folks to get to know each other better.   Tweet-ups were started so that people could meet the folks they've been chatting with over the internet in various social media platforms such as Twitter or Facebook.

If you're a small business who's been considering social media, you may want to attend to mingle with those who have successfully implemented blogs, Twitter and Facebook into their businesses.

The West Seattle Tweet-up is taking place on Thursday, June 24, 2010 starting at 5:30 p.m. in the bar at Salty's on Alki.

Please bring a can of food to donated to the West Seattle Food Bank.

Did You Get Your Tax Assessment in the Mail?

When I'm providing mortgage rate quotes for Seattle area home owners, I've been noticing that many of them are enjoying recently reduced property taxes due to the current housing climate.  So you can imagine my surprise to see that our tax assessed value (and therefore our tax bill) INCREASE for 2010.   Our neighbor confirmed that her taxes went up as well.   Neither of us have made any improvements to our homes.   So this is apparently based on "appreciation".   But without significant sales to support this increase, I'm wondering where King County is coming up with these numbers?

Local title company, The Talon Group, has an interesting article about property taxes

Homeowners have a right to appeal their property valuations withing 60 days of the mail date of the Official Property Value Notice. It would stand to reason that they would need to send some sort of notification out to homeowner if the assessor was revaluing property.

I'm wondering what other Beach Drive neighbors received from the King County tax assessor.  Please chime in--did your assessment go up or down or stay the same?

As you're beach combing along Emma Schmitz, Charles Richey, and areas of Lincoln Park, remember these are designated marine preserves or Marine Protected Areas.   Nothing is to be removed from these coastal areas, including shells or sea critters.  Download MarineAreaRules (see page 19).

 

Beach areas in front of homes are often private and have varying property lines from property to property.  Some homes may own the beach out to mean low tide.  There's no way for the public to know where private property begins or ends--just something to keep in mind. 

BREAKING NEWS! Sunshine Predicted in Seattle for Saturday and Sunday

Theron Zahn from KOMO-4 is broadcasting off Mee Kwa Mooks Park and Beach Drive covering Seattle's recent and pending weather.  I had a few moments to interview him where he predicted a beautiful sunny day for Saturday.  Sunday will start off a little grey with a marine overcast which should burn off.   Note that it's sunny enough for shadows in the picture!
